Photo Safari to Anastasia State Park –Wildlife and Nature Photography Instruction, Karlson

This popular event is a longtime favorite of the Festival, but now it’s offered during the morning hours to take advantage of better lighting and more time for photo instruction. Ride in the back of pick-up trucks to the remote Anastasia State Park inlet, where Kevin shares his knowledge of bird and wildlife photography in a beach setting with a maximum of 14 participants. Arrive at the beach site before dawn and practice shooting the sunset and early morning backlit scenes for artistic effects. Instruction covers basics of wildlife and nature photography, including image and scene composition, awareness of light and compensation for light and dark subjects, benefits of manual exposure mode for controlling your overall image lighting, and how to approach subjects in an open setting, with ground level photography illustrated. Special emphasis is given on techniques for flight and action photography, which is one of Kevin’s strengths. Individual attention is given to each participant during the workshop, with questions and interaction with Kevin encouraged.
